Match Reports

  • Round 1 : Hastings v Thunder

First game of the season is always met with lots nervous energy, have we done enough during the pre season etc, we came out like a house on fire, kicked the first 4 goals of the match in the space of 10 minutes and it was game on, slowly hastings pegged us back and for the next 2 1/2 quarters it was goal for goal, we went in at 3/4 time a few points up . the last quarter unfortunately hastings out worked us and we just ran out of legs, we found out later that hastings had played 3 practice games prior to meeting us and we had played 0, it showed in the end they were up for the contest and us not quite, there were definately some positives, our 5 new players made fantastic contributions and have fitted into the team awesomely and our captain jack leete lead from the front, the run will do us good.
  • Round 2 : Rye v Thunder

We travelled to rye not really knowing what to expect from these dudes, once again our start was quite good but much like the first game our intensity dropped and rye cut us up through the middle in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, the last quarter was much better but to little too late, we started to move the ball well and look for our team mates and it started to show on the scoreboard, we got rolled again but a great learning curve for our group, if you dont bring whats required any team can beat you.
  • Round 3 : Thunder v South Mornington

Our first home game for the season, we needed to bounce back, I challenged the group in the clubrooms before the game, at the end of the first quarter the scoreboard read Balnarring 6 v Sth Mornington 49, that wasn't supposed to happen, this game could have gotten real ugly, Sth Mornington are the reigning premiers from the higher division last season and put on an absolute clinic in the first quarter, there were some home truths said at the quarter time huddle and to the boys credit the next 3 quarters we held them to 5 goals and we snagged 2 ourselves, I was super proud of the way the boys really dug in , didnt drop their heads and had a real crack, in the clubrooms after the game we had a great feedback session and the boys saw first hand what happens when you apply yourself, oscar, ty, zeb, nat, olly tommy, lach, hay and jack.l were some of our best.
  • Round 4 : South Mornington B v Thunder

Another sth mornington team and another reigning premier from last year, we started to turn the corner last week and all we wanted to see this week was continued improvement and effort, once again things were tight at quarter time, sth kicked away to a 4 goal lead at the half and from then on the scores were dead even, meaning sth walked away with a 4 goal win but we walked away with our heads held high, i couldnt have been any prouder with our boys, their improvement from round 1 to round 4 has been fantastic, they really pressured sth mornington who are a very skillful hard running team, we spoke about perceived pressure and what that brings, we are now doing the little things that make a good team, the things that dont show up on the stats sheet, we pushed these dudes all the way. jack.l again was fantastic, as was oscar, robert, ty, xav, hay and the other 11 dudes who had a real crack. we played with 17 as we have alot of injuries at the mo but thankyou must go to sth mornington who leant us a player every quarter.
